Creepless for branding

In design work, scope creep usually arrives as “one more round of revisions”. Creepless checks every request against what the client pays for, so included work goes ahead and extra work becomes a quote they approve first.

Where the hours go

Common scope creep in branding work.

Typical setup: Project or retainer with a fixed number of concepts, revision rounds and deliverables.

Revision rounds beyond the agreed number

Extra file formats and asset sizes

New brand applications (merch, signage, decks)

Restarting concepts after sign-off

Example scope rules

Write the line down once.

Included in the planQuoted as extra
2 rounds of revisionsAdditional concepts
Logo files in standard formatsPrint and merch applications
Brand guidelines documentPitch deck design
How requests get checked

Three requests. Three calls.

“Can we get the logo in SVG too?”

Included

Standard file formats are part of the deliverables.

“Can you design our trade show banner?”

Extra

Print applications are excluded, so it's quoted.

“We’re not sure about the colours anymore.”

Needs review

Could be a revision round or a restart. Check how many rounds are left.

Questions

Scope creep in branding, answered.

How many revision rounds should a design project include?

Two or three is common. Whatever the number, write it in the agreement and track it, so the fourth round is clearly an extra.

How do I tell a client their revisions are out of scope?

Show how many rounds were included and used, then offer the next round at a set price. Clients accept limits more easily when they can see the count.
